This Sunday we’ll be in Mark 3:7–35, a passage where the question isn’t just what Jesus is doing, but who we believe him to be.
Mark shows three very different ways people respond when Jesus comes near: a crowd that presses in because they need something; a family that tries to manage him because they love him; and religious experts who, threatened by what they see, end up calling God’s work something dark. Jesus meets each response with a kind of clarity that’s both bracing and merciful. He is inviting each of us into a new reality, a new allegiance, a new kind of belonging, a new “family.”
My hope is that this text will gently test our instincts—what we want from Jesus, what we fear about him, and whether we’re willing to let him define who we are.
Looking forward to being with you this Sunday!
Blessings,
Matt
